Beschluss des Demosvon Halasarna, die Tempelpfleger Nikarchos S. d. Charmippos,Timasikles S. d. Herakleitos, Nossylos S. d. Polymnastos, stellten den Antrag: Da Diokles,S. d. Leodamas, gemäß der von seinen Vorfahren überkommenen Trefflichkeithandelnd, fortwährend allen Eifer und alle Fürsorge für den Demosvon Halasarna aufgewandt und in den Kriegen zur Bewahrungdes Forts und der Bewohner des Landes das Bestegeraten und sich selbst jeder Gefahr dafür ausgesetzt hat;und zu jenem Moment, als im Kretischen Krieg gemeldet wurde, dass der Platzbedroht sei, er sich selbst mit mehreren zusammen auf den Weg dorthinbegeben und (die Lage) inspiziert hat zusammen mit den zum Schutz Beorderten und die Bewohnerherbeigerufen und sie bestimmt hat, in das Fort zu kommen und es gemeinsam zuschützen, bis es geschah, dass die Feinde vom Angriff abstanden;und damit (der Platz) auch in dem gegenwärtigen Krieg bewahrt werde, als die Feindemehrere Attacken unternahmen zu dem Zeitpunkt, da sie nach Astypalaiagrößere See- und Landstreitkräfte zusammengezogen hatten, er Kriegsgerät und Katapultgeschossehinaufschaffen ließ und zu Platzkommandanten gemäß Volksbeschluss diejenigen bestimmt hat,die am ehesten für den Schutz zu sorgen vermochten, und ihnen Männer unterstellt hatin genügender Anzahl, die auch tagsüber Wache hielten und - - -und er selbst zugegen war zum Schutz des Platzes - - -- - - und im Voraus den Angriff der Feinde bemerkt hat - - -- - -- - -- - - der geeignetste] Platz des Forts,und als der Angriff geschah, er die Angreifer der Forts verfolgt undfestgenommen hat; er sich mit Nikostratos S.d. Nikostratos dahin verständigte, dass dieser vondenen, die sich zusammen mit ihm auf den Weg begeben hatte, die am leichtesten Bewaffneten nimmtund sich mit ihm vereinigt, wobei es sich, als dieser plangemäß mit Eifer erschienen war,ergab, dass der Ort nicht genommen wurde und die Angreiferabzogen, ohne ihre für das Land schädlichen Vorhaben ausgeführt zu haben- - - und alle den Priestern für die Ausführung der Opfer,und sich fortwährend dem Kult der Götter widmet; er persönlichdenjenigen Demengenossen, die sich an ihn wenden, hilft und dabei darauf achtet,dass sie nicht nur im Umgang mit den Behörden keinen Schaden erleiden,sondern auch, dass sie, soweit es in seiner Macht steht, in nichts zu kurz kommen; - damit nunder Demos von Halasarna in sichtbarer Weise Gerechtigkeit widerfahren lässt denen,die die Absicht haben, ihm Gutes zu tun, und Diokles durch die Ehrung noch viel bereitwilligersich hergibt für das Interesse des Demos, wolle man beschließen: dass man belobigeDiokles S. d. Leodamas wegen seiner Verdienste und seines Wohlwollens gegenüber allenBürgern und gegenüber dem Demos von Halasarna; dass man ihn bekränzemit goldenem Kranz (im Wert) von 50 Alexander-Goldstücken. DieTempelpfleger sollen verdingen, diesen Beschluss auf eine steinerne Stele aufzuzeichnen undzu weihen im dem Heiligtum des Apollon an den hervorragendstenPlatz.

Decree of the demeof the Halasarnans, sacral-administrators Nikarchos son of Charmippos,Timasikles son of Herakleitos, Nossylos son of Polymnastos proposed: inasmuch as Diokles,son of Leodamas, has conducted himself in keeping with the high excellence passed onby his ancestors, showing all zeal and devotionin behalf of the deme of the Halasarnans, in the wars planning the best for the pro-tection of the fortress and the residents in the countryside, andcommitting himself to every danger in behalf of this (deme);for at the time in the Cretan war when it was reported that there was a plotagainst the place, he himself came with a more numerous force and joinedin making the roands with those stationed on guard, and summoning the residentshe posted them to gather in the fortress and join indefending it until it came about that the enemy stood down from the attack;hence also in the present war he holds firm while the enemies are making furtherattacks, when at the moment were gathered at Astypalaianumerous naval and land forces he he brought up siege engines andbolts, and by decree appointing as station commanders those mostcapable of overseeing the guard and stationing men for thesein sufficient numbers who would keep the day-watch - - -and coming in person for the guarding of the place - - -- - - anticipating the enemies’ attack - - -- - -- - -- - - the most suitable place in the fortress,and when the attack came, in response he checked those whocame at the fortress, having consulted with Nikostratos son of Nikostratosso that he joined him bringing the most lightly armed of the sentries; on whose arrival through his zealous foresight it transpired that the place was not captured and the attackersdeparted without effecting any harm to the territory;- - - all and to the priests for conducting the sacrificesacting to devote himself to the adorning of the gods, making it his concernto aid individually to those of the demesmen who approached him, notonly so that on taking up magistracies they suffered no lossbut also so that they would not hold back, to the best of his ability; thereforeso that the deme of the Halasarnans may be manifest as doing justice towardthose who prefer to benefit it and that Diokles, being honored, may put himself forwardeven more eagerly for the advantage of the deme, it is decreed: to praiseDiokles son of Leodamas for his excellence and his devotion to all thecitizens and to the deme of the Halasarnans; to crown himwith a gold crown worth 50 Alexander gold staters; thesacral-administrators are to contract to inscribe this decree on a stone stele anderect it in the temple of Apollo in the most conspicuousplace.
